Green Light for Seongnam City Museum Construction... Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Feasibility Evaluation Passed Site for the Construction of Seongnam City Museum

[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] A green light has been turned on for the Seongnam City Museum construction project.

Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 13th that the Seongnam City Museum, which is being planned to be built within the Neighborhood Park of the 1st Industrial Complex at 2457 Sinheung-dong, Sujeong-gu, was selected as a legally, policy-wise, and technically appropriate project in the preliminary feasibility evaluation by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Among the 14 places evaluated by the government this time, only three, including Seongnam City, received an appropriate rating.

By passing the preliminary evaluation, which is mandatory for local governments to build a museum, Seongnam City has laid the groundwork to secure 2.8 billion KRW in national funding out of the total construction cost of 30 billion KRW.

The city plans to complete administrative procedures such as the local finance investment review (central) next month, then proceed with architectural and exhibition detailed design services to build the Seongnam City Museum.

The Seongnam City Museum will be built within the Neighborhood Park (46,615㎡, completed at the end of 2021) on the site of the former 1st Industrial Complex in Sinheung-dong (84,271㎡).

The park developer will first construct the Education Building (1 basement floor, 4 above-ground floors) by the end of next year, and Seongnam City will complete the Exhibition Building (2 basement floors, 3 above-ground floors) by the end of 2024.

The target opening is the first half of 2025.

The museum will reexamine the Gwangju Mass Complex Incident, which was the origin of Seongnam City, and exhibit records and artifacts that show the history of the 1st Industrial Complex, which played a central role in regional economic development, the joys and sorrows of citizens, and the dynamism of urban development.

A city official emphasized, "The site where the city museum will be located is a symbolic place reflecting Seongnam's history, hardships, and civic consciousness," adding, "We will build a museum that enhances Seongnam City's status and provides a vision for the future."
