OCN Broadcast in April Next Year
The comic "Island" by writers Yoon In-wan and Yang Kyung-il is being adapted into a drama.
According to multiple entertainment insiders on the 12th, the drama of the same name will begin filming in November and will air on the cable channel OCN in April next year. It is planned to be produced in 20 episodes through two seasons. The screenplay is written by writer Jang Yoon-mi (41), who wrote the films "Madame Bbangdeok" (2014), "Lucky" (2015), and "Cheer Up, Mr. Lee" (2018). Director Bae Jong (51), who directed the films "Welcome to Dongmakgol" (2005) and "Fabricated City" (2017), will take the helm, with Studio Dragon and YLAB co-producing. An insider said, "We are in discussions with several actors for the cast."
"Island" is a fantasy exorcism story based on Jeju folklore. It stylishly depicts the process of Ban, an exorcist monk who wields a dagger and uses the art of chukjibeop (instantaneous movement), defeating various types of yokai (supernatural creatures). It peculiarly portrays the story of Ban protecting Won Mi-ho, the daughter of a conglomerate with a unique secret, as she yearns for a new life. The core theme is causality?the principle that all events arise from causes, and nothing occurs without a cause. It tells a simple yet complex law that those who commit sins are punished, and those who perform good deeds receive salvation.
