[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Measures to actively support post-care, such as connecting child and adolescent victims of sex trafficking with professional mentors until they reach the age of 19, are being discussed.

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 12th that it will hold a meeting with representatives of support projects for child and adolescent victims of sex trafficking at the Government Seoul Office on the 13th.

The meeting will be attended by representatives of organizations supporting victims of sex trafficking and officials from the Korea Women's Human Rights Institute. The main discussion points include protection measures for victims from medical, legal, psychological, self-sufficiency, and educational perspectives, rather than punishment and correction, as children and adolescents involved in sex trafficking are defined as victims. The issues discussed at the meeting will be reflected in future policies.

Based on the discussions at this meeting, the Ministry plans to strengthen support for victimized youth lured into sex trafficking through random chat apps by providing online counseling and monitoring, reporting and receiving notifications of sex trafficking inducement acts, medical and legal support, case management, temporary protection, relapse prevention education programs, and career and academic advancement programs. In particular, they plan to expand self-reliance capacity-building programs tailored to individual characteristics.
