Cooperation Including Hosting International Academic Conference at the 2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 11th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korean Phycological Society on the 7th to successfully hold the 2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo.
Through this MOU, the Wando International Academic Symposium will be held during the 2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo, providing an opportunity for residents engaged in fisheries and related experts to discuss the future of the aquaculture industry and devise countermeasures together.
In particular, various information on seaweed such as research and technology trends in the seaweed industry due to climate change, smart aquaculture technology, and startup ideas in the fisheries sector will be shared to present the development direction of the seaweed industry to fishermen.
Furthermore, to maximize the synergy between the two organizations through innovative content development in the seaweed industry, they agreed to create a broad platform for exchange and cooperation, including support for academic conferences and holding workshops involving fishermen.
Kim Myung-sook, President of the Korean Phycological Society, said, “The MOU between the two organizations will serve as a win-win development model for the advancement of the seaweed industry,” and added, “We will do our best to lay the foundation for the globalization of the Wando seaweed industry through this opportunity.”
Shin Woo-cheol, Governor of Wando-gun, expressed his aspiration, saying, “Through the international academic symposium, we will widely promote the excellence of clean sea Wando seaweed, a healthy food, to the world and successfully lead the 2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo so that the Wando seaweed industry can grow to the next level.”
