Hanchangwon's 'Home Training'... "Ensure Proper Torso Rotation"

'Korean Tour Trio' Distance Increasing Know-how, Jeon Garam Says "Pelvic Strengthening Stretch Using Foam Roller"

Hanchangwon's 'Home Training'... "Ensure Proper Torso Rotation" Hanchangwon training body rotation at home with a driver on his back.

[Asia Economy Kim Hyunjun, Golf Specialist Reporter] "The goal is body turn."

Han Changwon (29, Volvik)'s 'home training secret' is about 'increasing driving distance' for amateur golfers. He recommended, "In a golf swing, you use muscles that are not usually used," and "Practicing slowly turning left and right with a driver placed on your back at home is effective." He explained, "Repeating movements like turning right and turning left helps with torso rotation," and added, "As you gradually increase the speed and the rotational power becomes faster, the swing speed naturally increases."

Han Changwon won the 2009 Asia Amateur Golf Championship and participated in the 2010 'Master's Series.' He joined the Korean Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Korean Tour in 2011, and it is surprising that he has not yet won a tournament. In July 2018, he finished as runner-up after a playoff against Moon Doyeop (29) on the final day of the KPGA Championship, showing that he is just missing that '2%'. He added, "You can feel a different driving distance compared to before by using a swing that utilizes the body's rotational power."

Additionally, Jeon Garam (25), who is also with Volvik, contributed 'pelvic strengthening stretches.' The starting point of her analysis is that "amateur golfers often move side to side rather than rotating their torso." She introduced, "Sit on a foam roller, place one side of your foot flat on the floor while raising the opposite leg to form a figure four," and explained, "Gently pressing down with your weight and moving the foam roller helps loosen the pelvis and improves twisting function."

Jeon Garam is a player who earned her first victory at the 2018 season opener, the DB Insurance Pro-Am Open. Her story of working as a caddie for five months at the fiercely competitive Daeyu Montvert Golf Course added to the spotlight. She secured her second career win last May at the Huons Elravie Celebrity Pro-Am. She also shared the tip that "Side Lunges strengthen not only the pelvis but also the waist, knees, and ankles."

Lastly, Kim Hongtaek (27, Volvik) shared his know-how for increasing 'impact power.' He emphasized, "The higher the waterfall, the greater the impact," and said, "You need to raise the swing arc as high as possible at the top of the backswing to deliver power during the impact phase." He is known for his unique record of winning both the screen golf G Tour and the Korean Tour (2017 Busan Open) simultaneously. He advised, "Focus on practicing moving back and forth between the top of the backswing and the impact zone."
