Itaewon Pubs 'Sulpan' and 'King Club' Visited by Confirmed COVID-19 Case, Gangnam University Student (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 9th, one additional COVID-19 positive case was confirmed in Gangnam-gu, bringing the total number of positive cases to 65.

A 19-year-old male university student residing in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, visited the Itaewon pubs ‘Sulpan’ and ‘King Club,’ which were previously visited by a confirmed case from Yongin City, on the early mornings of the 1st and 2nd. From the 6th, he only experienced a slight throat irritation without any significant symptoms, but after visiting the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center on the 8th for testing, he was confirmed positive that morning.

Gangnam-gu has placed this university student under isolation, immediately disinfected three cafes and one restaurant identified as part of the confirmed case’s movement path, and through epidemiological investigation, identified 12 contacts.

Among four tested, three were confirmed positive in other local governments, and the remaining eight are currently undergoing testing.

Additionally, Gangnam-gu confirmed that confirmed cases from Anyang City, Gyeonggi-do, and Yangpyeong County visited ‘Black Sleep Room’ at 6 Bongeunsa-ro 1-gil (next to Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 3) from 12:30 AM on the 4th to 8:30 AM on the 5th. The facility was immediately disinfected and voluntarily closed.

Currently, on-site epidemiological investigations are underway, and identified contacts will be placed under self-quarantine.

District Mayor Jung Soon-gyun said, "Visitors who were at the location during the specified time must visit the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center to get tested."

Starting today, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has issued a gathering ban administrative order on 225 entertainment establishments in Gangnam.

Mayor Jung requested, "We ask for the active cooperation of business owners, and urge Gangnam-gu residents and Seoul citizens to refrain from visiting these establishments during this period."

Gangnam-gu has formed a joint inspection team with Gangnam and Suseo Police Stations to regularly check compliance and plans to take legal action against establishments found violating the order.
