Eutteum Gokseong Melon, First Shipment of the Year Begins

The Premium Melon Created by the Pristine Seomjin River and Over 40 Years of Cultivation Expertise, Tempting Consumers

According to Gokseong-gun on the 8th, the first shipment ceremony of the 2020 Gokseong melons was held at the Gokseong Melon Co., Ltd. joint sorting center on the same day.

The farmer Kim Taebong from Taepyeong-ri, Gokseong-eup, who made the first shipment, planted the Earl's lineage Ivy variety melon in early February in four greenhouses equipped with heating and warming facilities. Fruit setting began in mid-March, and the melons have grown robustly, resulting in a shipment of 300 units weighing 8kg each this time.

Gokseong melons are cultivated in the optimal environment of the Seomjin River area, characterized by clear and clean surroundings, large temperature differences between day and night, and soil rich in organic matter. Combined with the farmers' dedication, they have gained a reputation nationwide as premium melons.

Under the brand "Train Ride to Melon Village," they received the Presidential Award at the 2015 Agricultural Food Power Brand Expo and won the Grand Prize in the export category of the World Agricultural Technology Awards in 2016. Based on this, they have been steadily building a distribution system for supplying major department stores nationwide and for export.

In particular, Gokseong-gun operates the Gokseong Melon Rural Convergence Industrialization Project Group to foster Gokseong melons as a representative brand of Korea. The project group is dedicated to rural convergence industrialization with the goal of creating high added value and increasing farmers' income.

As the largest domestic production area with about 40 years of melon cultivation experience, they are preparing the Gokseong Melon Complex Experience Center, aiming for completion by the end of the year, to offer consumers various pleasures using melons such as food, processing, experiences, and tourism.
