The last top official Lee In-young: "The new floor leaders should hold a plenary session even next week"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Lee In-young, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged the convening of the plenary session, saying, "As soon as the new floor leaders of both ruling and opposition parties are elected tomorrow and the day after, the National Assembly plenary session should be held even next week." He expressed his feelings on completing his term as floor leader, saying, "It was a joyful and honorable time." Lee will complete his one-year term after the Democratic Party floor leader election on the 7th.

On the morning of the 6th, at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly, Lee said, "We must create an opportunity to pass even one more law that helps the people and livelihoods so that the 20th National Assembly can end on a high note." He mentioned the Jeju 4.3 Special Act, the Past Affairs Act, and special laws related to dismissed public officials, expressing regret that "many tasks to be resolved in this 20th National Assembly remain unfinished."

He added, "There are about ten bills necessary to overcome the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) left unfinished, and I have to hand them over to the next floor leader without completing them."

Reflecting on his one-year term as floor leader, he said, "It was a joyful and honorable time to work with Party Leader Lee Hae-chan and the Supreme Council members." He also stated, "Personally, I feel relieved, but my heart is heavy as the COVID-19 national crisis continues," and added, "I hope the Democratic Party elected members humbly accept the great mandate of 180 seats given by the people and approach it with a responsibility so heavy it is almost frightening."

Lee concluded his remarks by saying, "I will become a private soldier and continue to work steadfastly from a low position so that the 21st National Assembly can quickly complete the organization of committees, operate normally from June 1, and become a National Assembly that contributes to overcoming the national crisis."
