[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Seulgi Kim] Min Kyung-wook, a member of the United Future Party, urged the National Election Commission to investigate allegations of fraud in the 21st National Assembly election, stating, "I hope the NEC explains why it has stored the personal information of tens of thousands of people in its internal information system."
On the 5th, Min posted on his Facebook, saying, "I hope the NEC explains why it has stored the personal information of tens of thousands of election assistants, election observers, and officials from various political parties in its internal information system."
Min also demanded an explanation regarding remarks made by Jo Gyu-young, Head of Election Division 1 at the Central Election Commission, who appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' on the 29th of last month.
Min said, "Jo Gyu-young clearly stated that 'information on election workers and candidates (including preliminary candidates) from various elections held over the past four years is stored in the internal information system used for election administration purposes.' I concede to some extent regarding election candidates," he added.
He continued, "I hope they clarify the specific details on how personal information was obtained by category and whether consent procedures were followed," adding, "I hope they disclose the scope and number of personal data held. If they fail to present convincing evidence, the NEC would be admitting to violating the Personal Information Protection Act."
Meanwhile, Min, who has claimed manipulation of early voting in the 21st general election since the 22nd of last month, one week after the general election ended, ran as a candidate in the Yeonsu-eul district of Incheon in this election but was defeated.
