Kim Tae-nyeon Announces Candidacy for Democratic Party Floor Leader: "Will Create a Working National Assembly... Prioritize Freshmen for Standing Committee Assignments"

[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Kim Tae-nyeon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, officially declared his candidacy for the Democratic Party floor leader election to be held on the 7th of next month.

On the morning of the 28th, Kim held a press conference at the National Assembly and stated, "If we fail to meet the expectations for the 180 seats, the people will hold us strictly accountable again," adding, "I will create a working National Assembly."

Kim said, "The 90-day regular session and the 30-day extraordinary session in even months originated from the military regime that avoided convening the National Assembly," and added, "I will immediately introduce a permanent session system."

He also emphasized, "There should be no cases where bills from other standing committees are unreasonably delayed in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee under the pretext of systematic and legal review," and stressed, "I will abolish the systematic and legal review function to prevent the Legislation and Judiciary Committee's overreach."

He continued, "I will expand multiple bill subcommittees so that first-term lawmakers can also utilize their expertise."

Kim highlighted his experience as the first policy committee chairman under the Moon Jae-in administration and his role in budget negotiations for the Nuri Curriculum and electoral district delimitation negotiations during the opposition period. He said, "I have gone through numerous negotiations," and added, "Based on strong driving force, I will lead a major-opposition relationship that communicates where communication is needed and compromises where compromise is necessary."

He also presented pledges for first-term lawmakers. Kim said, "I too was once a passionate first-term lawmaker," and added, "By prioritizing committee assignments for first-term lawmakers considering their expertise, I will actively support first-term lawmakers with expertise in various fields to fully realize their potential."

He continued, "The promises made to the people during the general election are also the party's promises," and emphasized, "I will immediately form a floor pledge implementation support group to actively support first-term lawmakers in fulfilling their pledges and legislative activities."
