[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Former President Jeon Du-hwan (89), who was indicted for defaming the late Father Jo Bi-o, arrived at the Gwangju District Court on the 27th. It has been over a year since he last appeared as a defendant at the Gwangju District Court on March 11 of last year.

On that day, former President Jeon left his residence in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul at around 8:25 a.m. and arrived at the courtroom building of the Gwangju District Court at 12:19 p.m. When reporters asked, "Why don't you take responsibility?" he did not respond and entered the building.

Mr. Jeon got out of the car, took the hand extended by a security guard, and walked into the building. He did not show any particular signs of mobility difficulties. His wife, Mrs. Lee Soon-ja, also moved to the courtroom with him.

Members of the May 18 organizations chanted slogans such as "Take responsibility for the Gwangju massacre and Jeon Du-hwan must apologize" while singing the symbolic May 18 song "March for the Beloved" as former President Jeon entered the court.

Mr. Jeon is expected to attend the trial after waiting in the witness support room on the second floor of the courtroom building. The trial will be held at 2 p.m. that day in Criminal Courtroom 201 of the Gwangju District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Kim Jeong-hoon of Criminal Division 8.
