[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Junho] On the 24th, the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS) pledged to take the lead in proactively responding to the post-COVID-19 (novel coronavirus infection) era and achieving true independence in materials, parts, and equipment at the "43rd Anniversary of Materials Research and 13th Anniversary of the Institute's Founding" ceremony. Due to social distancing measures amid COVID-19, the ceremony was held via live broadcast on YouTube.
At the event, KIMS awarded the Chairman's Commendation of the National Research Council of Science & Technology and the Director's Commendation of KIMS to individuals and organizations who demonstrated outstanding research activities and work capabilities.
The Chairman's Commendation of the National Research Council of Science & Technology was awarded to Kwangjun Uh, Principal Researcher of the Metal Materials Research Division, and Sangseon Yang, Principal Researcher of the Powder and Ceramic Research Division. The Excellent Researcher Award went to Taehun Kim, Senior Researcher of the Composite Materials Research Division.
KIMS also presented Special Merit Awards to corporate representatives who have maintained long-term cooperative relationships with the institute through various research projects. The recipients were Jongwook Lee, Executive Director of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, Seongbak Hong, Vice President of Bugok Stainless, Jeonghee Lee, CEO of Sewon Metal, and Samoon Hong, CEO of C&G Hightech. In addition, a total of four teams and 36 individuals were selected as awardees.
Director Jeonghwan Lee said, "Recently, C&G Hightech Co., Ltd., which maintains a cooperative relationship with the institute, brought a painting of Dokdo to commemorate the 13th anniversary of KIMS. Dokdo symbolizes the sovereignty of the Republic of Korea's territory, and in light of last year's export regulation incident by Japan, we interpret this as a call for KIMS to take the lead in achieving true independence in Korea's materials, parts, and equipment. We will do our utmost to dedicate ourselves to research."
