Meal Support Serving Dual Purposes for 'Young Restaurateurs' and 'Vulnerable Groups'

Linking '18 Youth Stores' in Seodaemun-gu with '265 Vulnerable Individuals in 14 Neighborhoods'... Preparing and Delivering One Meal a Day Lunchboxes or Ready Meals

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) is promoting a ‘meal provision project’ that connects young restaurant entrepreneurs struggling due to COVID-19 with vulnerable residents such as elderly people living alone.

Supported by approximately 50 million KRW in subsidies from Seoul City, this project involves 18 youth-run stores in the area, including five stores located in ‘Sinchon Boxquare’.

These stores prepare and deliver one meal per day in the form of lunch boxes or simple meals to 265 vulnerable residents across 14 neighborhoods in Seodaemun-gu.

Previously, the district office matched the youth stores as suppliers with the vulnerable residents as beneficiaries by region and adjusted the number of households to ensure the project runs efficiently.

In addition, notices and store-specific menu lists were distributed to the respective residents.

The project started on the 13th of this month and will continue until early next month, minimizing face-to-face contact during meal delivery.

Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, stated, “We are conducting this project to provide practical help to young small business owners facing management difficulties due to COVID-19 and vulnerable residents experiencing hardships due to temporary closures of welfare facilities.”
