Dongjak-gu to Create 17,100 Jobs This Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (District Mayor Lee Chang-woo) announced the ‘2020 Job Creation Promotion Plan’ to expand jobs centered on the local community.

The ‘Job Target Public Announcement System’ is a regional employment activation policy that establishes specific goals and strategic promotion plans tailored to local characteristics for job creation, and annually verifies and announces the promotion results.

Since the 6th elected term, the district has analyzed the achievements of job creation projects, local population changes, employment trends, and industrial structure to create 17,100 happy jobs through 134 projects, including 128 public sector projects employing 15,274 people and 6 private sector projects employing 1,826 people, under the vision of ‘Dongjak, an Economic City with My Job’ this year.

The district will revitalize the local economy through four core promotion strategies: ▲job creation reflecting local characteristics ▲activation of customized jobs ▲fostering sustainable social economy enterprises ▲laying the foundation for future job creation.

To this end, this year, the district established the ‘Job Economy Bureau’ and reorganized the ‘Life Economy Division’ into the ‘Economic Promotion Division’ to focus on expanding quality jobs and revitalizing local commercial districts, strengthening the power of the local economy.

First, the district will implement local employment policies reflecting regional characteristics. It will carry out youth employment support projects through career transitions for public exam takers at centers such as the Noryangjin WEL Center and build a job governance system involving the public, private, and academic sectors in cooperation with local universities.

Additionally, the district will provide jobs suited to local characteristics and to youth, women, seniors, and people with disabilities by implementing ▲2030 customized employment support projects ▲operation of youth job centers ▲installation and operation of senior job centers ▲hosting employment and startup fairs.

Furthermore, the district will foster sustainable social economy enterprises by supporting customized growth of social economy enterprises and promoting youth job support projects for social economy enterprises.

Moreover, the district will lay the foundation for future job creation through ▲discovering future promising jobs in the Dongjak vocational education special zone ▲training next-generation core talents through employment education for future promising occupations ▲creating youth creative innovation experience spaces ▲developing cultural tourism content.

The ‘2020 Job Creation Promotion Plan’ can be viewed on the district office website and the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s regional employment information network (www.reis.or.kr).

Meanwhile, last year, the district aimed to create 14,918 jobs through 144 projects and achieved about 113.5% of the target by creating 16,933 jobs. It plans to create 17,450 jobs by 2022.

Jo Jin-hee, head of the Job Policy Division, said, “We will do our best to revitalize the local economy through customized job policies suited to our district’s characteristics and to build Dongjak into a city without job worries.”
