[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Gwangjin District Council (Chairman Go Yang-seok) held the 233rd extraordinary session on the 22nd and began three days of legislative activities.
On the first day of the extraordinary session, discussions were held regarding the detailed organization of the audit team and methods for collecting residents' opinions to ensure a thorough administrative audit scheduled for May this year.
Following this, the Council Steering Committee was convened to review the "Partial Amendment to the Ordinance on the Operation of Regular Meetings of the Gwangjin District Council, Seoul," which includes provisions to establish exceptions for the administrative audit period to enhance the efficiency of council operations.
The main schedule of this extraordinary session includes the 1st plenary session on the 22nd, agenda reviews by each standing committee on the 23rd, and final resolutions on the agenda items reviewed by the standing committees on the last day, the 24th, concluding the session.
A total of 13 agenda items were submitted to the standing committees, including 9 ordinances, 3 consents, and 1 opinion presentation, covering various pressing issues such as COVID-19, regional economic revitalization, jobs, and resident safety, attracting attention.
In particular, the partial amendment to the Gwangjin District Fund Management Ordinance introduces ‘support for small business owners affected by national disasters’ within the scope of the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Fund to provide effective assistance to small business owners in Gwangjin. The ordinance on the issuance and operation of the Gwangjin Sarang Gift Certificates aims to establish a distribution base and promote the use of the gift certificates to contribute to regional economic revitalization by detailing matters related to the issuance and operation of the certificates.
Additionally, the partial amendment to the Gwangjin District Social Disaster Relief and Recovery Support Ordinance supplements provisions concerning the stabilization of living conditions and damage recovery for disaster victims in accordance with revised higher laws, to provide practical support to residents facing economic difficulties due to COVID-19.
Chairman Go Yang-seok expressed in his opening remarks, “I would like to thank Mayor Kim Seon-gap and all staff for making Gwangjin District safe from COVID-19, as well as the residents who have participated in overcoming this crisis.” He pledged that all Gwangjin council members will deeply reflect the will of the residents identified throughout the district during this general election and engage in more active legislative activities.
He also stated, “Since many agenda items are directly related to residents' lives, I ask that they be reviewed from the residents’ perspective to ensure their will is reflected as much as possible.” He added, “The Gwangjin District Council will also join forces with the executive branch to do its best for the health and safety of residents and the recovery of the local economy, hoping that spring will return to Gwangjin once again.”
