Guidance on Using Digital Tools Such as Video Conferencing Remote Tools, Support for Assistant Teachers for Video Classes
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu (District Mayor Seoyangho) has teamed up with the Digital Literacy Education Association to support remote education programs for the smooth progress of online classes.
With the sequential online school openings starting from April 9, this initiative provides technical support to teachers facing the new challenge of remote classes and offers students a variety of high-quality educational content.
First, starting from the 21st, the district will support online video education training for teachers at schools in the area that wish to participate.
The training content focuses on digital literacy education, beginning with simple but essential video education etiquette, and teaching how to use digital devices to perform desired tasks and obtain necessary information. Teachers will learn how to use remote video conferencing tools (Hangout Meet, Zoom) used in online classes, cloud tools (Google Drive, Padlet) for uploading, sharing, and editing materials online, as well as other digital tools.
After the training, for teachers who want to conduct interactive remote classes, assistant personnel skilled in using remote tools will be dispatched to schools to help resolve technical issues that may arise during online classes, ensuring smooth class progress.
Additionally, the district will diversify online class content by expanding career-linked classes and curriculum-linked digital project classes, currently conducted in some local schools, to more schools that wish to participate.
Last July, the district signed a business agreement with the Digital Literacy Education Association to create a smart education leading city, Jung-gu, expanding various digital literacy-related cooperative projects such as elementary, middle, and high school curriculum-linked programs, free semester system, and after-school programs in line with the online school openings.
Career-linked classes are conducted as 'ONkkum Classes,' where students communicate with experts via video calls. In 'ONkkum Classes,' students select one class from a list provided by the association and access the designated URL at the scheduled time to interact online with career experts conducting career-related talk concerts.
The responsible teacher guides students about the class, and the ONkkum support coach conducts the class. Students attending the education receive instructions on using tools via Zoom from the ONkkum support coach and complete the class by writing assignments and reports.
Curriculum-linked digital project classes are digital education connected with various subjects such as Korean, social studies, music, and art. Classes include composing music with digital tools, drawing with augmented reality, creating 3D animations, and art classes using AI, all linked to school curricula. Other programs include creating learning comics, producing subject-related info videos, and making subject-specific e-Books, designed to engage students and have received positive responses.
Seoyangho, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, "We have significantly supported diverse and high-quality online lectures by leveraging the digital infrastructure established to promote smart education, taking this online school opening as an opportunity. I hope our district’s students, who are attending online classes at home due to COVID-19, will find their classes more enjoyable and beneficial."
