[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Hong Joon-pyo, former leader of the Liberty Korea Party, who was elected as an independent candidate in Daegu Suseong-e, criticized the United Future Party, saying that "transients took over the party and engaged in 'party power manipulation'."

On the 17th, Hong said on his Facebook, "The very question of my rejoining the party is rude and unpleasant."

He also appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' that morning and called the question about rejoining "rude."

Hong said, "I have protected this party for 25 years and saved it when it was on the verge of disintegration," adding, "Although transients temporarily took over the party and manipulated party power, this party remains the stronghold of Korean conservative right-wing."

He attributed the election defeat to the existing leadership. In the radio interview that day, he pointed to former Public Official Recommendation Committee Chairman Kim Hyung-o's 'reckless candidate nomination' as the biggest cause of the election defeat.

Hong said, "It is truly absurd that those who betrayed the party during the impeachment, criticized the party in the last presidential election, and caused turmoil during the local elections are now talking about my rejoining," adding, "Three million party members and the public are watching. Reflect on yourselves."
