A man in his 20s caught for turning off his phone and violating self-quarantine in Uijeongbu


[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] A man in his 20s subject to self-quarantine in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, disappeared after turning off his mobile phone but was caught by the police two days later.


According to the Uijeongbu Police Station on the 16th, a report was received on the 14th at around 11:40 a.m. that a man in his 20s, Mr. A, residing in Howon-dong, Uijeongbu, violated self-quarantine rules and left without permission.


According to the police, Mr. A’s parents reported to 112 that their son, who was subject to self-quarantine, left the house with 400,000 won of his father's money and could not be contacted.


Mr. A had been hospitalized at Catholic University Uijeongbu St. Mary's Hospital, where a cluster infection occurred, and was discharged, making him subject to mandatory self-quarantine until midnight on the 16th.


Mr. A, who turned off his mobile phone and left home, turned his phone back on at around 10:40 a.m. on the 16th and communicated with the police. Later, the police found Mr. A in front of a convenience store in Uijeongbu and handed him over to health authorities.


Earlier, on the 15th, Uijeongbu City filed a complaint against Mr. A for violating the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act.


The health authorities plan to conduct an epidemiological investigation, including tracking Mr. A’s movements.
