[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Lee Nak-yeon, Co-Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea's Joint Election Countermeasures Committee, said after watching the exit poll results announced by terrestrial broadcasters, "Exit poll results are just exit poll results," and added, "We will wait humbly for the counting results."

Chairman Lee made these remarks around 6:30 PM on the 15th after observing the vote counting situation at the Democratic Party and Together Citizens' Party counting situation room set up in the National Assembly Members' Office Building. When reports emerged from the exit poll results that the Democratic Party and Citizens' Party would secure an outright majority, applause broke out among the Democratic Party and Citizens' Party leadership, candidates, and party members watching the broadcast.

However, Chairman Lee said, "Exit poll results are just exit poll results," and added, "During the election period, we deeply felt the heavy mandate from the people to swiftly overcome the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), and we approached this election with that in mind." He continued, "Even after the election, we will prioritize overcoming the national crisis and devote ourselves to that effort. We will wait humbly for the election counting results."

Before leaving the situation room, when asked by reporters about his view on the election results, Chairman Lee said, "I do not make such predictions. Predictions are just predictions. It is cautious to speak ahead of time." He plans to move to the Jongno-gu office to watch the counting results.
