[Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] The cumulative number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Turkey has surpassed 60,000.

On the 14th (local time), the Turkish Ministry of Health announced that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country increased by 4,093 from the previous day, reaching a total of 61,049. The number of deaths rose by 98 in one day, bringing the cumulative total to 1,296.

Fahrettin Koca, Minister of Health, stated on his Twitter account that "34,456 COVID-19 infection tests were conducted in the past 24 hours," and "a total of 410,556 people have been tested." He added, "While the number of tests is increasing, the ratio of confirmed cases to the number of tests is decreasing," and reported that "3,957 patients have recovered."

The Turkish government plans to impose a curfew over the upcoming weekend to prevent further spread of COVID-19. Previously, last Friday, a weekend curfew was declared in 31 regions including Istanbul and the capital Ankara.
