[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) has become an example to those around after a young person donated savings accumulated monthly over several years to neighbors struggling due to COVID-19.

The protagonist is Yeom Hye-seung (27), who lives in Hong Eun 1-dong. Yeom, having just started working, donated 5 million won of savings, which she had diligently set aside from a portion of her salary, to the local community center on the 8th.

Yeom said, "Since it was savings from my first paycheck, it was very special to me, but rather than using it for myself or my family, I decided to donate it to neighbors struggling because of COVID-19."

Her mother, Im Gyeong-ja (56), also serves as a member of the Mabom Council at the Hong Eun 1-dong Community Center and has actively participated in sharing activities for neighbors, such as supporting low-income households with side dishes, kimchi sharing, and cleaning and organizing the homes of elderly living alone. Im wholeheartedly supported her child's decision to donate.

The donation was designated and entrusted to the Seodaemun-gu Social Welfare Council and will be used for the Hong Eun 1-dong Mabom Council's specialized projects for neighbors in crisis, according to the donor's wishes.

Ahn Byeong-chun, chairman of the Hong Eun 1-dong Mabom Council, stated, "We hope that the beautiful heart of donating hard-earned savings will become a spark for spreading a culture of sharing in the local community, and through specialized projects, we will ensure that the donor's intentions are well conveyed to neighbors struggling due to COVID-19."
