The Beatles' 'Hey Jude' Lyrics Sold for 1.1 Billion Won

[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] A handwritten lyric sheet of "Hey Jude" by Beatles member Paul McCartney was sold for 1.1 billion won at an online auction.

According to AFP on the 10th (local time), the "Hey Jude" lyric sheet was sold for $910,000 (about 1.1 billion won) at an online auction held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' breakup. This price is more than five times the appraised value.

The Beatles used this lyric sheet when recording "Hey Jude" at a recording studio in London in 1968. "Hey Jude," considered one of the Beatles' classic songs, was written by McCartney to comfort John Lennon's son, Julian.

Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the auction was held online. At the auction, a drum book leather used by the Beatles during their first U.S. tour in 1964 was sold for $200,000 (about 240 million won). A handwritten script used during the filming of the 1967 "Hello Goodbye" music video was sold for $80,200 (about 100 million won), and a brass ashtray frequently used by Ringo Starr in the 1960s was sold for $32,500 (about 39.4 million won).

In addition, more than 250 Beatles memorabilia items, including guitars and LP records, were exhibited in this auction.
