Solving Farmers' Difficulties Through Various Sales Methods Including Drive-Thru
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Young-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do's campaign to support farmers struggling due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) by promoting the sale of agricultural products has received great response from local residents, reaching sales of 7.5 billion KRW.
According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 10th, the 'Agricultural Products Cooperative Sales Campaign,' launched in early last month to help eco-friendly agricultural producers unable to supply school meals due to the delay in school openings, has continued a five-week streak of complete sell-outs.
The cooperative sales, which include packages composed of about 10 types of eco-friendly agricultural products as well as water dropwort (minari), leafy vegetables for wraps (ssamchae), and strawberries, involved participation from the provincial government office, the education office, the NongHyup (National Agricultural Cooperative Federation), Daegu City Hall, military units, and public institutions.
The 'Gyeongbuk Agricultural Products Consumption Promotion Sales Event' held from the 2nd to the 7th of this month at 139 Emart stores nationwide also recorded sales exceeding 4 billion KRW. One percent of the sales revenue will be donated to children's centers in rural areas within the province.
The Gyeongbuk specialty agricultural products shopping mall 'Saiseo' is also conducting a large-scale discount sales event, donating 1% of sales as COVID-19 relief funds.
Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, "Thanks to many people actively participating in ethical consumption, we have achieved good results," adding, "To ease the worries of farmers, we will continue the consumption promotion campaign through securing various sales channels such as drive-thru sales along with the agricultural product sales campaign."
