[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The COVID-19 Psychological Support Team operated by Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) is receiving favorable reviews.
According to Seo-gu on the 10th, as the spread of COVID-19 prolongs, the number of people complaining of anxiety, depression, and stress due to isolated lifestyles is increasing, emphasizing the importance of psychological quarantine for mental health.
Accordingly, Seo-gu is operating the ‘COVID-19 Psychological Support Team’ to alleviate the anxiety of residents and those in self-quarantine caused by COVID-19.
The Psychological Support Team, composed of mental health professionals, conducts telephone and face-to-face counseling (face-to-face counseling is provided after quarantine release for those in isolation), and if specialized consultation related to psychological support is needed, professional counseling support is provided through the ‘Mental Health Primary Doctor’ system.
Through counseling, the team provides professional consultation and evaluation for various mental health issues such as stress, depression, and anxiety, enabling prompt primary diagnosis, early detection of high-risk groups, and guidance to medical institutions for treatment.
Those wishing to receive counseling can contact the Seo-gu Mental Health Welfare Center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, with both telephone and face-to-face counseling available.
A Seo-gu official stated, “Through the operation of psychological support and the Mental Health Primary Doctor counseling office, we expect residents to comfortably receive mental health counseling anytime and anywhere and quickly obtain professional help,” adding, “We plan to actively provide services for the mental health of residents in the future.”
