[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The police have requested an arrest warrant for a man in his 50s who caused a disturbance wielding a weapon at a campaign event for Oh Se-hoon, the United Future Party candidate running in Seoul Gwangjin-eul for the April 15 general election.
On the 10th, the Seoul Gwangjin Police Station announced that they had applied for an arrest warrant for A (51) on charges of special intimidation and violation of the Public Official Election Act.
The police judged the case to be serious as A threatened election staff, including the candidate, with a weapon, thereby obstructing the freedom of the election.
A is suspected of approaching candidate Oh, who was campaigning with a weapon, near Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, at around 11:10 a.m. the previous day. A was stopped by police officers present at the scene. Although candidate Oh and campaign workers were at the rally, no injuries were reported.
During the police investigation, A stated that after finishing a night shift and trying to sleep, he committed the act out of frustration because his sleep was disturbed.
