[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 30th of last month, Koo Hyun-mo, President of KT (pictured), who officially took office, urged internal employees to "have confidence in the future that 5G will create and push forward." He also promised, "We will create systems and cultures so that anyone with passion and capability can freely challenge and be recognized."
In an email sent to KT employees on the morning of the 10th, President Koo said, "The future that 5G will bring is just the beginning." He added, "The 5G use cases we are creating in various fields such as shipbuilding, medical care, and robotics are a kind of 'POC (Proof of Concept),' and if KT leads these changes and social consensus spreads, a decisive moment will come when 5G expands across all industries."
He also evaluated the achievements of one year since the commercialization of 5G. He mentioned, "We built the largest 5G coverage in the country and led the B2B market by adding innovative technologies such as AI, big data, and cloud. The more than 150 5G B2B use cases demonstrate the strong power of KT 5G."
He also revealed that KT's 'change' and 'renewal' have begun. President Koo especially said, "As we rushed through the first quarter, I felt that KT is changing," adding, "The change started with business reporting." He cited the example that this year, the field organization, the Regional Headquarters, began business reporting to the CEO first. President Koo said, "The Regional Headquarters is the organization closest to customers," and "Based on that, business reporting was conducted by each organization."
He pointed out that the meeting culture at KT, which used to be centered on reporting and instructions, is also positively changing to a method where practitioners participate together and discuss. He said, "We will create systems and cultures so that anyone, regardless of age, with passion and capability can freely challenge and be recognized," and added, "Efforts are also underway to strengthen employees' expertise through AI and cloud future talent development projects."
President Koo emphasized, "We have the pride and capability of leading 135 years of telecommunications history," and said, "Since KT has a history of proving the winning formula that 'when KT moves, it becomes the rule,' it is time to properly show our capabilities."
