[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The United Future Party has demanded the resignation of Lee Jae-jung, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Anyang Dongan District, accusing her of pressuring a female junior who was sexually harassed in the past to "make a wise choice."
Jung Won-seok, the full-time spokesperson for the United Future Party's election committee, stated in a commentary on the 10th, "This is not the first time Candidate Lee has made offensive remarks and lied. She has made offensive remarks and lies as many as 10 times."
He said, "Candidate Lee emphasized women's rights and participated in the Me Too movement, but when a junior lawyer was sexually harassed during her time as a lawyer, she was the one who pressured her to 'make a wise choice.' When reporters asked Candidate Lee, who was the Democratic Party's spokesperson on the Cho Kuk case, for her position on behalf of the public, she spat out the offensive term 'giregi' (a derogatory term combining 'reporter' and 'trash')."
He added, "Former Gyeonggi Broadcasting reporter Kim Ye-ryeong asked President Moon Jae-in during a press conference, 'What is the basis of your confidence?' to which Candidate Lee responded with a below-common-sense remark, saying it was 'more a problem of lack of ability than of attitude.' Even though former Democratic Party chief spokesperson Hong Ik-pyo clearly used the term 'lockdown' regarding the Wuhan COVID-19, Candidate Lee dismissed it as fake news and casually lied, saying 'there was no such expression at all.'"
Spokesperson Jung pointed out, "Candidate Lee defended the government's nuclear phase-out policy, claiming that Germany completed its nuclear phase-out in 2015, but Germany still operates six nuclear reactors today. She insulted Judge Sung Chang-ho, who presided over the Kim Kyung-soo-Dru King case, by saying, 'It feels like he is lecturing with his own inferiority complex or poor logic.'"
Furthermore, during the MERS outbreak, although the actual number of domestic deaths was 39, Candidate Lee inflated the death toll to 260 on a radio broadcast. She also served as a lawyer in the Unified Progressive Party's dissolution trial and posted offensive remarks on her personal social network service (SNS), stating, "If the Unified Progressive Party is dissolved, the Constitutional Court would be committing constitutional murder." Additionally, at a National Assembly Public Administration and Security Committee meeting, she made offensive remarks toward opposition lawmakers, saying, "When President Park Geun-hye was impeached, there were more than just one or two lawmakers who should have been impeached," and she also called former floor leader Na Kyung-won a 'murderer.'"
Spokesperson Jung said, "Candidate Lee has made all kinds of offensive remarks and lies during her four years as a member of the National Assembly, yet shamelessly asks the residents of Anyang Dongan District to vote for her in this election. What Candidate Lee must do right now is to apologize and reflect on her past offensive remarks and lies, and resign as a candidate for the 21st general election."
