Busanjin Gijang-gun Distributes 10 Additional Masks Each to Bus Drivers and Postal Workers

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Busan's Gijang-gun is distributing an additional 10 masks per person, totaling 10,950 masks, free of charge to bus drivers, taxi drivers, delivery workers, and post office mail carriers to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

Gijang-gun had previously provided 9,650 masks in total, 10 masks per person, to these special occupation workers in early last month. However, as COVID-19 has prolonged, the safety of special occupation workers who have the most contact with local residents was deemed important, leading to the decision to provide additional masks.

The county also packaged 10 health masks per person for all 8,500 middle and high school students in the area and distributed them to schools of all levels on the 6th. The method of delivering the masks to students is left to the discretion of each school principal.

Along with this, the county secured 130,000 bottles of hand sanitizer and distributed one bottle per household free of charge to all 70,000 households in the area. They continue to distribute them free of charge to daycare centers, kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as multi-use facilities, companies, and self-employed businesses in the region.

Oh Gyu-seok, the head of Gijang-gun, said, "Protecting the safety and lives of residents is the responsibility of local government heads," adding, "When a serious issue threatens the safety and lives of residents, we must not hesitate to spend public funds generously without saving or splitting them."
