Yeongdeungpo-gu Supports Up to 2 Million KRW in 'Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificates' for Unpaid Family Care Leave

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is expanding support measures for residents who take unpaid family care leave due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic by providing up to 1,000,000 KRW in Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificates per couple, and up to 2,000,000 KRW when combined with support funds from the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

As COVID-19 continues, the indefinite postponement of daycare centers and kindergartens reopening, and the online opening of elementary, middle, and high schools from the 9th, concerns are increasing daily among dual-income families and others who find it difficult to provide care at home.

In response, the Ministry of Employment and Labor has extended the support period for 'family care expenses' from 5 days to 10 days for workers who took unpaid family care leave.

In line with the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s policy, the district has been implementing a policy since the 2nd to compensate the economic losses of residents who took unpaid family care leave by providing Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificates worth 50,000 KRW per person per day for up to 5 days?the first such initiative among local governments nationwide.

Following the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s decision to expand support, from the 9th, the district will extend the Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificate support period from 5 days to 10 days and double the district’s support per person from a maximum of 250,000 KRW to 500,000 KRW.

If a resident takes 10 days of family care leave, they will receive 500,000 KRW worth of Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificates per person. When combined with the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s family care expenses, this amounts to 1,000,000 KRW per person and a total of 2,000,000 KRW per couple.

The district expects that this expanded support of Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificates will ease the financial burden on dual-income couples and help revitalize the local economy.

Applications for Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificates can be made via email (ydp1004@ydp.go.kr) or by visiting the district office’s Job and Economy Division. Considering social distancing measures, email applications are recommended.

Required documents can be downloaded from the Yeongdeungpo-gu website, and inquiries can be directed to the COVID-19 Small Business Support Team.

Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “To alleviate the economic difficulties of residents taking unpaid family care leave due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we are providing up to 500,000 KRW per person in Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificates. Yeongdeungpo-gu will do its best to be a reliable supporter for its residents.”
