Expansion of 'Smart Library' and Increase in E-book Loan Limit (2 Books → 7 Books)
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) started the ‘Safe Book Loan Service’ on the 9th to provide ‘book convenience’ to residents while practicing ‘social distancing’ to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
By using this service, during the temporary closure period of three district-run libraries?Lee Jin-ah Memorial, Namgajwa Saerom Children’s, and Hong Eun Dodam?residents can borrow up to 7 books per person for 3 weeks, separate from the existing loan limits. The district disinfects all books before lending them out.
After logging into the Seodaemun District Library website (http://lib.sdm.or.kr), users can apply for loans between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., and pick up the books at the main entrance of the respective library from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. the following day. A library membership card must be brought at the time of pickup. However, if the application is made the day before a closure day (Monday for Lee Jin-ah Memorial and Namgajwa Saerom Children’s, Friday for Hong Eun Dodam), the books can be collected the day after the closure day.
Also, applications cannot be made on closure days due to the need for prior preparation of loaned books, and books not collected the next day after application will be automatically canceled.
Visitors must wear masks when visiting the library, and returned books should be placed in the unmanned return box outside the library.
Previously, Seodaemun-gu expanded the loan limit for ‘Smart Libraries’ installed at Independence Gate Station, Ahyeon Station, and Hongje Station, as well as district-run library e-book loans, from 2 to 7 books during the temporary closure period caused by COVID-19.
Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, “Although it is difficult to go outside due to COVID-19, I hope many people will make good use of their leisure time through reading and overcome this period well.”
