Gyeonggi-do to Provide 6-Month Supply of Daily Necessities for Independent Living Youth

Gyeonggi-do to Provide 6-Month Supply of Daily Necessities for Independent Living Youth

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will provide daily necessities support this month to ensure stable living for independent living youth who are experiencing economic difficulties due to COVID-19.

Independent living youth refer to young people who cover their living expenses through daily or contract work. Recently, they have faced difficulties in securing living expenses due to job losses or reduced working hours caused by COVID-19.

This special support will be provided by delivering daily necessities over six months. Approximately 100,000 KRW worth of daily necessities, including semi-prepared meals and detergents, will be additionally supplied six times.

The province expects that this additional support of daily necessities will help compensate for the insufficient living expenses of independent living youth, contributing to their stable daily lives and self-reliance.

A provincial official stated, "We will provide a more thorough safety net for at-risk youth in the province who need self-reliance support, helping them to live socially stable lives, and especially continue to expand housing support, which has become a significant issue."

Meanwhile, the representative facility for independent living youth in the province is the Gyeonggi Youth Self-Reliance Support Center. This center supports youth under 24 years old who have received support from youth shelters or youth recovery support facilities but cannot return to their families, schools, or society, helping them develop self-reliance skills.

In particular, the center regularly visits the individual residences of independent living youth for case management and supports housing costs and daily necessities so that youth can live in stable housing environments.

It also carries out various self-reliance support projects, including counseling, medical services, employment support, independent living skills education, and linking with local resource sponsorships.
