[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea East-West Power announced on the 9th that it will hold a public contest for demonstration institutions until the 22nd to promote this year's power generation equipment localization test-bed project.
The power generation equipment localization test-bed project supports proving the performance and reliability of domestically developed equipment through on-site demonstration to replace foreign equipment with domestic products. This time, the contest is open to domestic small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The 161 selected items this time are foreign maintenance parts from the relatively recently constructed Dangjin Thermal Power Plant and Ulsan Thermal Power Plant that require localization, as well as core power generation equipment parts necessary for improving domestic technology.
East-West Power plans to purchase the parts after on-site demonstration to expand domestic companies' market access and reduce maintenance costs.
In particular, according to the exemption criteria for persons in charge within the power parts test-bed guidelines established last year, the burden of demonstration will be reduced, and efforts will be made to ensure that successfully demonstrated items lead to purchases.
Additionally, a two-month public contest for core parts research and development (R&D) project ideas targeting domestic SMEs has been underway since the 1st of this month.
The contest fields include ▲ new industry technology development for future growth engines ▲ power industry technology development ▲ clean energy technology development such as new and renewable energy ▲ power generation equipment localization technology development.
For detailed information on these two contests, please refer to the research and development contest section on the East-West Power website.
An East-West Power official said, "We will actively strive to discover and expand localization projects through mutual cooperation with SMEs possessing excellent technology, localize power generation equipment, and promote technological independence and revitalization of the domestic economy."
Since last year, East-West Power has launched a task force (TF) for 'Localization and Competitiveness Enhancement of Power Generation Equipment' in response to Japan's export regulations and established a roadmap for localization of power parts.
Currently, the localization rate of power generation equipment is 80%, and the plan is to increase it to 90% by 2024.
