Hampyeong-gun to Pay Full Amount of 'Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance' Early in Lump Sum

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Acting Governor Na Yunsu) announced on the 9th that it will pay the full amount of this year's public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen in a lump sum next month to minimize the damage caused by COVID-19.

The county held the Hampyeong-gun Farmers and Fishermen Public Interest Allowance Committee by written resolution the day before, and decided to pay the full amount of the public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen, which was scheduled to be paid in the first and second halves of this year, as early as the 16th of this month.

Originally, it was planned to be paid in two installments of 300,000 won each in May and October, but it was decided to pay the full amount early for the stability of farm households and revitalization of the local economy.

This year, the county secured a budget of 4.041 billion won and will pay 600,000 won per household to 6,735 local farm households as the public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen.

Of this, 1.6 billion won comes from provincial funds, and more than 2.4 billion won is invested from the county's own budget.

The payment targets are actual farmers and fishermen who have had their address in Hampyeong for more than one year prior to application and are registered with agricultural and fishery management businesses.

The allowance will be paid in full with Hampyeong Love Gift Certificates, which can only be used in Hampyeong-gun (including 627 affiliated stores and traditional markets). For safe payment, the certificates will be distributed collectively through the local agricultural cooperative with which a distribution agency contract has been signed.

Na Yunsu, Acting Governor of Hampyeong-gun, said, "The early payment of the public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen will breathe new life into each farm and the local economy, which have fallen into an unprecedented slump due to COVID-19," and added, "We will continue to do our best to prepare safety measures for the livelihoods of local residents, including farmers and fishing households."
