[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The extension project of Subway Line 7 for the 17.45 km section connecting Okjeong in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province to Pocheon is being promoted.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 9th that it has started the "Feasibility Study and Basic Plan Establishment Service for the Okjeong-Pocheon Metropolitan Railway."
The Okjeong-Pocheon Line 7 extension project is a project to extend the terminus of the Dobongsan-Okjeong section (15.3 km), which began construction last December, by 17.45 km to Pocheon with an investment of 1.1762 trillion KRW.
This project involves constructing a single-track railway from Okjeong New Town to Soheul-eup in Pocheon, passing through Daejin University, and up to Pocheon-dong, establishing four stations (one in Yangju, three in Pocheon) and a train depot, with a target opening year of 2028.
The province plans to prepare optimal facility and operation plans through the service to enable residents of Yangju and Pocheon to conveniently use the railway service.
During the service, traffic demand forecasts and environmental impacts will be carefully reviewed, and opinions from experts, Yangju City, Pocheon City, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), and other related organizations will be actively collected.
Hong Ji-seon, Director of the Railway, Port, and Logistics Bureau of the province, emphasized, "Since this line is being promoted for the balanced development of the northern Gyeonggi region, we will create a railway that residents of Yangju and Pocheon can conveniently use," adding, "We will closely consult with related organizations to complete the basic plan establishment process."
The preceding section of the Okjeong-Pocheon segment, the Line 7 Dobongsan-Okjeong connection project, is being invested with a total of 641.2 billion KRW and aims to open in 2024. Construction began on December 12 of last year.
