[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] New COVID-19 cases and asymptomatic infections continue to emerge in China.
On the 9th, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, 63 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 2 additional deaths were reported. Among the new confirmed cases, 61 were imported cases infected overseas and entered China. Two cases were infected within Guangdong Province. Additionally, 17 new suspected cases were reported, with 16 being imported and 1 from Heilongjiang Province.
So far, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases reported in China is 81,865. Among them, 77,370 patients have recovered and been discharged, and 3,335 have died. Currently, 1,160 confirmed patients are receiving treatment in hospitals, 73 are suspected cases, and 12,510 close contacts are under medical observation.
Although asymptomatic infections pose a risk of virus transmission, they are excluded from confirmed case statistics. The number of asymptomatic infections continues to appear, with 56 new cases added in one day. Currently, the Chinese health authorities are monitoring a total of 1,104 asymptomatic infections, of which 364 are classified as imported cases.
Meanwhile, outside mainland China in the Greater China region, a total of 1,384 confirmed cases have been reported: Hong Kong with 960 cases (264 discharged, 4 deaths), Macao with 45 cases (10 discharged), and Taiwan with 379 cases (67 discharged, 5 deaths).
