On the 9th, Prime Minister Chung presided over the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) meeting for COVID-19 response held at the Government Sejong Complex and said, "It is easy to see cases where thousands of young people flock to a few short-term jobs due to COVID-19."
He emphasized, "Many companies are postponing new hires, further reducing the already limited employment opportunities. Given the circumstances, it may not be easy to resume exams for the time being. Since this is an unprecedented disaster caused by COVID-19, we must find solutions."
He also urged, "Please consider ways to elicit voluntary cooperation from private companies."
Regarding the sequential online school openings starting that day, Prime Minister Chung said, "Although preparations were made with the best efforts, there may be many shortcomings. Initially, the quality of classes may not meet expectations, and there may even be significant confusion beyond what was anticipated." He added, "We will do our utmost to operate call centers and on-site support teams so that any problems can be promptly corrected."
He continued, "Careful consideration is needed to ensure that students in special environments such as low-income families, single-parent families, grandparent-headed families, multicultural families, and students with disabilities are not excluded or left behind in remote classes." He instructed, "The education authorities should provide special support in various ways, such as utilizing after-school teachers as customized support personnel."
