"KT Completes Election Communication Network Setup Ahead of April 15 General Election"

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT has established an election communication network nationwide and completed the final inspection to ensure the stable operation of the 21st National Assembly election.

On the 9th, KT announced that it had completed the installation of wired and wireless lines for over 3,500 early voting stations nationwide, 250 counting centers, and the election commission's work network. It also completed the construction of a FAX network for onboard voting and CCTV installation for monitoring ballot box storage facilities.

In particular, wireless communication networks were established to facilitate smooth early voting at 12 COVID-19 mild patient living treatment centers nationwide, including Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, and additional mobile base stations were deployed to support stable election communication networks.

Furthermore, to ensure the stable operation of the election communication network, the comprehensive election communication situation room and six regional situation rooms nationwide will closely monitor the election communication network until the counting is completed on the 16th. Approximately 2,600 communication specialists will be deployed to voting sites and major election bases nationwide during the election period to support stable operation of the election communication network.

A 'cyber attack response system' has been established to protect the election communication network from cyber threats such as DDoS attacks, and real-time attack monitoring has been strengthened. KT's DDoS defense service, 'Clean Zone Service,' has been applied to the entire work network, including the Central Election Commission website, and preemptive simulation training for attacks was conducted. Additionally, measures to block smishing messages impersonating election-related information are being implemented to protect customers.

Kim Jun-ho, Head of KT's Public Customer Division, said, "We have completed the construction of a dedicated communication network and pre-inspection to provide stable communication support for the 21st general election," adding, "KT specialists will be stationed at major bases such as voting stations and counting centers nationwide in cooperation with the election commission to perfectly support all communication services."
