[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] LG Electronics has unveiled the design of its mass-premium smartphone new model set to launch domestically next month. The rear camera resembles falling water droplets, and the front and back sides are curved on the left and right edges to provide a comfortable grip. The strategy is to differentiate through design, similar to the 'Chocolate Phone.'

On the 9th, LG Electronics released rendering images of its mass-premium strategy smartphone. Rendering images are a graphic term referring to three-dimensional visuals, and in the industry, they represent realistic previews of products under development.

Looking at the released product images, the three rear cameras and flash are arranged vertically like falling water droplets. The main camera protrudes, but the other two cameras are placed within the glass. Unlike competitors who arrange camera modules like induction cooktops, LG highlights only the camera lenses without borders, giving a clean impression.

The design also features curved left and right edges on the front and back of the device, drawing attention. This is called the '3D Arc Design,' similar to Samsung Electronics' 'Edge.' Unlike smartphones with right-angled edges, the wider contact area with the hand provides a snug grip. The silver border on the exterior is reminiscent of the border seen when opening a chocolate phone.

Chayongdeok, head of LG Electronics MC Design Lab, said, "At a glance, it looks neat, and the moment it touches the hand, the smooth design pursues a sophisticated feel," adding, "We will emphasize LG smartphones' differentiation points by giving a clear design theme to each product released in the future."

LG Electronics has taken a gamble with a design-focused new product in a smartphone market dominated by similar designs due to thinner bezels and increased camera counts. The previous flagship G series has been discontinued, and a new brand will launch a new product in mid-next month.

The mass-premium new model is expected to feature 8GB RAM and Android 10. A product with the model name LM-G900N was spotted on the global benchmark site Geekbench, presumed to be the successor to the G8 (LG-G820). It is equipped with a chipset codenamed 'Lito,' which Qualcomm has not disclosed, but it is likely the Snapdragon 765G.

Starting this year, LG Electronics revised its strategy to release region-specific models. The V60 ThinQ will be launched only in 5G commercialized countries such as the US and Japan, while domestically, the mass-premium new model and mid-to-low-end phone Q61 will be released in the second half of the year.
