Gangseo-gu to Provide 1 Million Won Support Fund for Academy and Private Institute Closures

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) will provide closure support funds to academies and private institutes that voluntarily suspended operations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, following multi-use facilities such as PC rooms and karaoke rooms.

The support targets a total of 1,265 locations, including 727 academies and 538 private institutes registered with the Gangseo Yangcheon Office of Education as of March 23.

The closure support fund will be provided to facilities that have consecutively closed for 14 days or more during the strengthened social distancing period from March 23 to April 23, with the support amount set at 1 million KRW. However, facilities registered under two or more business types (such as academies and sports facilities) will be excluded from support if they have already received support under another business category.

Applications are accepted until the 14th and must include ▲closure support fund application form ▲closure certificate (issued by Gangseo Yangcheon Office of Education) ▲copy of business registration certificate ▲copy of representative’s ID ▲copy of bankbook in the representative’s name. These documents can be submitted by visiting the Education and Youth Division in person or via email (kimi369@gangseo.seoul.kr).

The district office plans to conduct document reviews and on-site inspections to verify compliance with the closure before disbursing the funds in May to the academies and private institutes that applied for the closure support fund.

Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “I hope this support fund will be of some help to the academies and private institutes that actively participated in the closure to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” and added, “We will continue to prepare various support measures to help the local economy, which has been stagnating, recover as soon as possible.”
