[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] Lee Seonghee, President of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF), visited the fruit tree cold damage sites in Anseong and Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, to console farmers and announced on the 8th that he would actively support damage recovery.
This cold damage occurred due to abnormal low temperatures on the 5th and 6th, affecting 4,387 hectares of cultivation areas nationwide, including Gyeonggi, Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam.
In particular, in the Anseong area of Gyeonggi, the pear fruit tree flowering period advanced earlier than usual due to warm weather, and about 905 hectares of pear flowers suffered cold damage from the recent abnormal low temperature phenomenon.
The NACF has prepared various support measures related to this cold damage, including ▲ 50% discount supply of fruit set nutrients through NACF Chemical ▲ 30% advance payment of damage recovery support budget ▲ interest-free funds support according to the scale of damage ▲ guidance on flower and fruit thinning adjustment and additional pollination work support to reduce damage.
Lee Seonghee, President of NACF, said, "The damage to fruit farmers caused by the sudden abnormal low temperature phenomenon is serious nationwide, causing great concern," and added, "NACF will do its best to mobilize all capabilities for damage recovery and support for farmers."
