[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] SEAT, the Spanish brand of Volkswagen, has started producing ventilators amid supply shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to major foreign media on the 7th (local time), the SEAT factory in Martorell near Barcelona, Spain, is reportedly manufacturing simplified ventilators using automobile parts.

SEAT is collaborating with a startup company in Barcelona to produce 100 units per day of a ventilator named "OxyGEN," which will be provided free of charge to hospitals in Spain.

The basic structure of the ventilator is similar to a car's intake and exhaust system, leading automobile manufacturers worldwide to engage in ventilator production amid shortages caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

Additionally, clothing companies are producing masks due to COVID-19, and cosmetics companies are manufacturing hand sanitizers.
