[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] Choi Kang-wook, the proportional representation candidate of the Open Democratic Party, criticized former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon for raising suspicions that the MBC report on the 'prosecutor-media collusion' involving the prosecution and a Channel A reporter was a "production by the ruling party," saying, "He seems to be someone who needs social distancing."
On the 7th, Choi appeared on KBS Radio's "Kim Kyung-rae's Choi Kang Current Affairs" and said, "That person (former professor Jin) is somewhat unwell, so I don't want to logically refute his claims," adding, "He talks about the ruling party but seems to want to imply that I am behind it, which seems to have such an intention."
Regarding the report on the collusion suspicion between the prosecution and the journalist, he claimed, "The reporter in question is not a veteran journalist, and it doesn't seem like he acted alone, so there is a lot of room to see that there was some kind of planning," and "It appears to be true that they intended to influence the election somehow."
Earlier, on the 3rd, former professor Jin shared a link to an article on his Facebook, claiming that the MBC whistleblower was a ruling party supporter who had criticized the "Yoon Seok-yeol prosecution," and raised suspicions, saying, "This is how they create the world through falsehoods, fabrications, and distortions. According to this person, behind this fabrication are Choi Kang-wook and Hwang Hee-seok (former head of the Ministry of Justice Human Rights Bureau)." He also expressed doubts, saying, "It feels like it was set up by the ruling party."
Meanwhile, on the 31st of last month, MBC reported that Channel A reporter Lee had contacted the former CEO of Value Investment Korea, Lee Cheol, who is imprisoned at Seoul Southern Detention Center for financial fraud, and pressured him by mentioning his friendship with a current chief prosecutor.
According to the report, former CEO Lee met with reporter Lee through a proxy, Mr. A, and the reporter mentioned Lee's family and asset confiscation, conveying the message, "If you don't reveal the misconduct of Yoo Si-min, chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, you will face harsh investigations."
Additionally, MBC also released a transcript of a conversation between the reporter and the chief prosecutor.
