Dobong-gu Renovates Facilities for Seniors and Youth

Installation of Electric Side Screens at Outdoor Gateball Court of Darakwon Gymnasium During Temporary Closure... Improvement Projects for 4 Youth Facilities Underway During Temporary Closure

Dobong-gu Renovates Facilities for Seniors and Youth

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) has begun renovating senior citizen and youth facilities that have been temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On February 5, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community, the district fully suspended operations of over 80 multi-use facilities it manages, including welfare, cultural, and sports facilities.

Accordingly, in February, while these facilities were temporarily closed, the district completed the installation of an electric opening and closing system on the side of the outdoor gateball court at Darakwon Sports Park so that seniors could use the gateball court even in bad weather and during the winter season.

In particular, the installed windbreak is made of a membrane structure material with durability exceeding 10 years, making it sturdy, and it can be easily operated by anyone regardless of age or gender through an electric system.

Additionally, the Darakwon Sports Park gateball court is equipped with various auxiliary and convenience facilities such as lighting and sound systems, and with the newly installed electric side windbreak, it has become an all-weather gateball court usable even in winter and bad weather.

Moreover, the district has started major facility repairs on four district-run youth facilities that have been closed since February to ensure that young people can use comfortable and safe facilities.

The district secured 100 million KRW from the district budget and 300 million KRW in special grants from Seoul City this year to improve the environment and repair aging youth facilities.

The district currently operates four youth facilities: Ssangmun-dong Youth Culture House, Chang-dong Youth Culture House, Ssangmun-dong Youth Land, and Dobong Youth Nuri Center With, and is carrying out facility improvement construction during the temporary closure to meet the needs and expectations of youth.

The ongoing construction since February includes improvements such as repairing old shower rooms and signboards, removing asbestos decks and installing soundproof doors in practice rooms, replacing fire broadcast systems, replacing LED lights, and exterior finishing work, along with environmental maintenance.

Furthermore, to allow youth to utilize idle spaces, small practice rooms, healing playgrounds, and rooftop gardens are being created. The district completed most of the construction by the end of March during the temporary closure to minimize inconvenience to users.

Lee Dong-jin, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, “With the installation of the side windbreak at the Darakwon Sports Park gateball court and the youth facility improvement projects, we hope that seniors and youth can use the facilities safely and comfortably. We will continue to promote projects to support diverse cultural and sports activities for residents and provide comfortable resting spaces.”
