Jungnang-gu to Distribute 10.7 Billion KRW in Temporary Living Support Funds for Low-Income Households

10,730 Low-Income and Near-Poverty Households to Receive a Total of 10.7 Billion KRW... Prepaid Cards Available at Local Community Centers Without Separate Application

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu Office (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will provide a temporary living support fund worth 10.7 billion KRW to stabilize the lives of low-income residents experiencing economic difficulties due to COVID-19.

The support targets 17,300 households of basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups with an income below 50% of the median income, and the payment period is from April to July.

To enable quick use, payments will be concentrated from April 6 to 10 to boost the stagnant local economy.

The support amount for recipients of livelihood and medical benefits is ▲520,000 KRW for a single-person household ▲880,000 KRW for a two-person household ▲1,140,000 KRW for a three-person household ▲1,400,000 KRW for a four-person household. For recipients of housing and education benefits and near-poverty groups, the amounts are ▲400,000 KRW for a single-person household ▲680,000 KRW for a two-person household ▲880,000 KRW for a three-person household ▲1,080,000 KRW for a four-person household.

Recipients can visit their local community service center to receive a prepaid card without a separate application and use it. The prepaid card can be used at affiliated stores within Seoul but is restricted at entertainment establishments and large supermarkets.

The district office will send text messages to inform recipients of their individual collection dates to prevent crowding and practice social distancing.

Additionally, welfare officers will personally deliver the cards to elderly or disabled households with mobility difficulties.

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi stated, “The temporary living support project for low-income groups will be a great help not only to the recipients but also to small business owners struggling due to COVID-19. The district office will do its best to revitalize the stagnant local economy.”
