COVID-19 Case Confirmed in Noryangjin Academy District, Dongjak-gu

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) announced that the epidemiological investigation of confirmed patient No. 32 in Seocho-gu, which occurred on the 7th, revealed that the Noryangjin academy area was included in the patient's movement path.

Confirmed patient No. 32 in Seocho, Mr. A (male in his 20s), wore a mask while using Subway Line 9 to arrive at Noryangjin. He attended classes at Gongdangi 9-gwan lecture room from 1 PM and returned home by taxi at 6:17 PM.

According to the epidemiological investigation results, the district immediately disinfected the confirmed patient's movement path, closed all facilities of Gongdangi 9-gwan, and plans to conduct specimen tests on two instructors and 67 students who attended the relevant class.

Going forward, the district plans to jointly respond with Seoul City and Dongjak-Gwanak Office of Education to block the spread of COVID-19 in the Noryangjin academy area.

Since February, the district has been inspecting and managing 932 academies in the area. In particular, it emphasized the practice of social distancing at large academies in Noryangjin.

The academy in question participated in two closures (from February 25 to March 1, and from March 9 to March 15, excluding self-study rooms). Subsequently, as a COVID-19 infection prevention measure, it implemented ▲ placement of hand sanitizers ▲ installation of thermal cameras ▲ securing distance between students (leaving the front row and adjacent seats empty, zigzag seating arrangement, etc.).

According to the district’s inspection, last week, among 900 academies (excluding closed ones), 40.1% participated in closures, and in Noryangjin, 54 out of 211 academies, or 25.6%, participated.

The district is providing closure support funds to encourage participation in high-intensity social distancing for private multi-use facilities such as academies. Facilities that participate in continuous closure for 7 days or more from March 23 to April 19 will receive 100,000 KRW per day, up to a maximum of 1,000,000 KRW.

The Dongjak-gu Disaster Safety and Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters urged residents to voluntarily practice and participate in high-intensity social distancing until the 19th by ▲ minimizing outings ▲ refraining from unnecessary gatherings ▲ complying with COVID-19 prevention guidelines ▲ canceling religious activities, meetings, and events.

Lee Chang-woo, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “We will make every effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including in the Noryangjin academy area,” and added, “We hope for the voluntary participation of private multi-use facility managers such as academies and all academy students in practicing high-intensity social distancing.”
