[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] On the 7th, Lee Nak-yeon, Chair of the Democratic Party's COVID-19 National Crisis Overcoming Countermeasures Committee and candidate for Seoul Jongno District in the April 15 general election, said that Korea will be the first in the world to overcome the COVID-19 crisis.
At a campaign event at Dongmyo Station in Jongno that day, Chair Lee said, "I firmly believe that Korea will not just overcome the (COVID-19 crisis), but may be the first in the world to do so," adding that South Korea is currently fighting two wars against the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic crisis.
He also mentioned that over 120 countries have inquired about importing COVID-19 diagnostic kits developed by domestic small and medium-sized enterprises, saying, "If Korea does not become the first in the world to win the COVID war, then looking around, there are hardly any countries that can win the COVID war."
Chair Lee has repeatedly emphasized the message that the ruling and opposition parties must cooperate to overcome the COVID-19 situation. At a campaign event at Jaedong Elementary School in Jongno that morning, he stressed, "Even if opinions differ, we must first put our heads together to overcome the national COVID crisis as soon as possible," and added, "I hope people will choose those who will work rather than those preparing to fight."
