On the 7th, the Ministry of Education announced in a briefing after a video meeting of the 6th New Semester Opening Preparation Task Force with metropolitan and provincial offices of education nationwide that the tuition refund period will be extended to a total of 8 weeks due to the extension of the closure period.
Originally, a total of 64 billion KRW was planned to be invested, consisting of 32 billion KRW from the government supplementary budget and 32 billion KRW from the special education accounts of metropolitan and provincial offices of education, but the offices of education decided to invest an additional 12 billion KRW to secure a total of 72 billion KRW in funding. Tuition fees for national and public kindergartens will be reviewed for support measures by each office of education.
Ahead of the online school opening on the 9th, most 3rd-year high school and 3rd-year middle school students have borrowed smart devices. Seven offices of education including Busan, Incheon, Chungnam, Gyeonggi, Daegu, Gwangju, and Sejong completed device lending the day before, and the remaining 10 offices plan to complete it on the 8th.
On this day, the Ministry of Education and the offices of education also discussed measures to protect teachers' personal information and rights due to remote classes.
Park Baek-beom, Vice Minister of Education, said, "If a student infringes on a teacher's educational activities, measures against the offending student and protection measures for the affected teacher will be implemented according to the law," adding, "For offending students, measures such as community service and suspension of attendance are possible."
The Ministry of Education also plans to cooperate with metropolitan and provincial offices of education to provide prior guidance in the form of card news to schools, students, and parents regarding related matters to prevent infringement acts on educational activities before remote classes.
The education authorities also discussed plans for emergency care operation after the online school opening. Once online classes begin, elementary schools will support students in emergency care classrooms to attend remote classes by utilizing after-school instructors and others.
