NKMAX, Clinical Trial on Immunity After Cancer Surgery Underway

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] NKMAX announced on the 7th that it will begin a clinical trial to verify the impact of immune function on health recovery in patients after cancer surgery.

This clinical trial has completed IRB approval at K University Hospital in Seoul and is set to be led by Professor Lee Seung-hyun of the Department of Pulmonology. The trial will involve 66 patients who underwent surgery for non-small cell lung cancer, comparing and verifying changes in NK cell activity and health improvement between groups taking a health functional food containing Agaricus mushroom powder and those not taking it.

NKMAX plans to primarily evaluate the effect of the health functional food containing Agaricus mushroom powder on changes in NK cell activity through this clinical trial.

For measuring changes in NK cell activity in cancer patients, NKMAX's 'NK View Kit' will be used. The NK View Kit is a medical device that measures NK cell activity and is registered under medical insurance for monitoring treatment progress in patients with stomach cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and pancreatic cancer. It is a precision immunoassay medical device currently in use.

Agaricus mushroom became globally famous after being reported to have been used by U.S. President Reagan for colon cancer treatment. Research has shown that Agaricus mushroom contains abundant components that activate NK cells in the body, suppressing cancer growth and metastasis, and improving conditions such as allergies, inflammatory diseases, and type 2 diabetes.

Professor Lee Seung-hyun stated, "In cancer patients, NK cell activity is measured to be significantly lower than in healthy individuals, and cancer cells sometimes proliferate again as time passes after surgery." He added, "We hope this clinical trial will confirm that health functional foods containing Agaricus mushroom powder affect the improvement of NK cell activity and recovery in non-small cell lung cancer patients after surgery, providing a new health management option for cancer patients."
