Gwanak-gu Distributes COVID-19 Recovery Consumption Coupons as 'Rechargeable (Prepaid) Cards' to Vulnerable Groups

Gwanak-gu Distributes COVID-19 Recovery Consumption Coupons as 'Rechargeable (Prepaid) Cards' to Vulnerable Groups

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is implementing a temporary living support project to help vulnerable groups overcome COVID-19.

In the national disaster situation caused by COVID-19, rechargeable prepaid cards (consumption coupons) will be urgently provided to vulnerable groups to stabilize the lives and increase the consumption capacity of basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups, while promoting the revitalization of Gwanak-gu's local economy.

Through this project, as of March 2020, support will be provided to 14,904 households and 19,982 individuals who are basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups, with differentiated payments based on social security benefit eligibility and household size.

The support amount for a four-person household is 1.4 million KRW for basic livelihood and medical benefit recipients, and 1.08 million KRW for basic housing and education benefit recipients and near-poverty groups.

The district office is actively promoting the project by sending card receipt notices by mail to all eligible recipients without requiring separate applications, along with text messages to ensure no one is left out of support.

Focused support will be provided through the local community centers until the 16th, and those who have difficulty visiting during this period can receive prepaid cards until April 30.

Additionally, each community center is making various efforts to reduce waiting times caused by crowding when recipients visit, such as issuing numbered tickets and providing visiting services for those with mobility difficulties.

Mayor Park Junhee said, “We hope that the temporary living support project 'rechargeable (prepaid) card' will provide some help to vulnerable groups struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic,” and added, “The district will do its best by mobilizing all capabilities to bring an early end to COVID-19.”
