[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Park Yong-ha) announced on the 6th that on the 3rd, ahead of the 21st National Assembly election, it identified urgent regional development issues that must be resolved promptly for Yeosu's sustainable development and delivered them to local National Assembly candidates.
In this proposal, Yeosu Chamber included in the regional development section items such as "early establishment of Yulchon 2nd Industrial Complex and supply of industrial sites," "early development of Yulchon Industrial Complex's rear residential area," and in the SOC expansion section, "construction of a dedicated KTX line on the Jeolla Line (between Iksan and Yeosu)," "early construction of the undersea tunnel between Yeosu and Namhae," and "designation of Yeosu Airport as a southern central hub airport and commencement of international flights."
Additionally, seven regional development issues were proposed together, including "national support for the Yeosu Music Festival to enhance the brand value of cultural city Yeosu" and "discouragement of indiscriminate development in Dolsan and Hwayang districts and implementation of a total quota system for lodging businesses."
A Yeosu Chamber official stated, "Recently, various projects for regional development are being promoted, such as a large-scale investment of 8 trillion won in Yeosu National Industrial Complex and a 1.38 trillion won scale development of Yeosu Gyeongdo Marine Tourism Complex, but the infrastructure to support these is severely lacking," adding, "We hope that these regional development issues will be reflected in the general election pledges and serve as an opportunity for Yeosu to make a second leap forward."
Meanwhile, Yeosu Chamber has recently been actively making various proposals for the local community and industrial sites, including requests for allocation of some public masks to industrial sites struggling with mask supply due to the COVID-19 outbreak, proposals to expand local company participation in the Gyeongdo Marine Tourism Complex development project, and requests to extend the full enforcement date of the National Pension Act for daily construction and construction plant workers to overcome COVID-19.
